Just a little about the background image. I didn't take it, but I've taken similar photos there in SMA. This one is better. No idea who belongs to it.
There have been three visits to San Miguel. I'm going to take a stab at it and say that I was there during the Christmas/New Years holidays for 2010 and 2011. Then in the summer of 2012, I delivered two precious doggies 3000 miles from Sarasota by Toyota.
Would I go back. I think so. I loved it there, however, there are a few reasons I wouldn't.
#1, the ex is there. From what I understand, she still owns a condo property in Sarasota, but has returned to rent indefinitely in San Miguel. She has great friends there - the most interesting and intelligent group I've known since hanging with my buddies during college years. Part of the reason I found it so attractive was the charm that these eclectic people brought to the mix.
#2, the whole Spanish/Roman Catholic thing. I don't speak the language and don't even like the way it sounds. The indigenous and native people from San Miguel are highly manipulated by this corrupt religion run by some guy named "Pope" over in Italy. It's a crime.
#3, my favorite activity there was wining and dining. And plain ol' drinking, too, like tequilla. But I don't drink anymore. Even if I could afford it, it's just not as much fun now. I get more pleasure from such things as sleeping past noon.
#4, it's too difficult to walk there. My recently acquired limp prohibits even a walk to the mailbox on a flat sidewalk, let along bumbling up and down those damn cobblestone streets.
#5, the internet service sucks. There ain't nuthin' like the fat pipes here in the US of A. Tech is what I do as a livelihood, so I need to be connected reliably and with considerable speed.
But it ranks among the top few places I've been, next to Paris, Seattle, New York City, Boston, Lake Tahoe, Cavendish (Vermont), Antigua (Guatemala), Vieques (Puerto Rico), Camden (Maine) and ol' Cape Cod - my favorite of all.
